Jaipur: Former Army Chief General VK Singh on Tuesday said that he is ready to take a plunge into politics if it is in the interest of the nation.

He, however, said this did not mean that he had already made his foray into politics.

"See, there are a lot of options in this country. I have said that if anything happens which would be in the interest of the country, then I am ready to venture into that territory. That does not mean I have made my foray into politics or I am joining a political party," General (retired) Singh told reporters in the Rajasthan capital.

There have been speculation in the media that the former Army Chief has plans to join politics, after he shared the dais first with anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare and then yoga guru Baba Ramdev.

General (retired) Singh, however, denied that politics is always dirty and stated that there are some honest politicians as well, but unfortunately they are not in the limelight.

Commenting on the popularity of the agitations against corruption, General (retired) Singh said that the number of supporters can't measure the success of a movement.

Instead, he said that if a movement could bring about a transformation in the mindset of the people and awaken them, then they would be successful in the right sense.
