Breast Implants: Neither dangerous, nor safe

Breast Implants: Neither dangerous, nor safe

Do you wish to get silicon breast implants but, are worried regarding safety issues? Then, the US drug regulators’ report is sure to give some relief to all those hoping to go under the knife.
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), implants are relatively safe, despite frequent complications and a small increased risk of the disease lymphoma. A report was out to inform people about silicon breast implants which revealed, one in five breast augmentation patients had the implants removed within 10 years. The main reason behind this report was to help people make a better decision.
Latest studies showed that there is no association between the silicone implants and connective tissue disease, breast cancer or reproductive problems, reported FDA. But, there was a 'very small' increased risk of anaplastic large cell lymphoma linked with silicon implants that cannot be ignored. There are some more risk and complications involved with the implants, like implant rupture, wrinkling, asymmetry, scarring, pain and increase in infection with time, according to reports.
The BBC quoted FDA as saying, "Breast implants are not lifetime devices. The longer you have your implants, the more likely it will be for you to have them removed."
However, the agency also found that most women who had breast implants “report high levels of satisfaction with their body image and the shape, feel and size of their implants.”
The recent reports have not ended the controversy completely but, has surely cleared some misconceptions of people associated with silicon breast implants.
