Another rape taint on Bengal; minor victim sets self on fire

Kolkata: A 13-year-old girl allegedly set herself afire after being raped and heckled by local youngsters in West Bengal.

The youngsters allegedly raped the Class 8 student on her way to school. The incident took place in the Burnpur area near Asansol in the Burdwan district.

Locals made the victim and her father sit in reconciliation meetings with the accused on August 10 and 11 after the family planned to file a police complaint.

The duo was allegedly heckled in the meeting. Following the humiliation at that meeting the girl poured kerosene and set herself on fire at home on Monday.

She was moved to a hospital in a critical condition where she succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday.

Her father has lodged an FIR against nine locals at the local police station. The police have picked up six of the accused.
