Sonam Kapoor urges fans to wear pink on October 21
Actress Sonam Kapoor has always been known for her impeccable and adventurous sense of style, but now the actor seems to be putting her fashion sense to help out a cause.
Sonam is supporting a cause that works towards creating awareness about breast cancer and the actress is urging her friends and fans to show their support as well. Not many know this, but Sonam lost an aunt to the deadly disease and since then she has been working towards urging her friends and relatives to go for routine check-ups that would help catch the disease early on.
October is the month picked to promote awareness about breast cancer, worldwide and Sonam definitely wants to do her bit all through this month. She has joined hands with a Cancer Foundation to do the same.
“Sonam is a fashionista. So she’s urging everyone she knows to wear pink when they step out on October 21. It will be a small gesture but at least it’s a step forward. The most important thing that Sonam realised was that most people are still unaware of the seriousness of the disease and think that it can’t affect them,” says a source close to Sonam.
The actress herself says, “Everyone seems to know someone affected by breast cancer and I lost an aunt to it. Detecting cancer while it is in the initial stages is the only way to fight it. That requires awareness about the tests to be taken and leading a healthy lifestyle.”
Sonam also said that she is hoping to make a difference in creating awareness, no matter how small, in her own little way.
The actress is urging not only women but also men and children to wear pink on the designated day, because she believes that when one person in a family is affected by cancer, it takes a toll on the entire family.
“People are mistaken when they think that breast cancer can affect only women, but the fact is that even men are not immune to it. These are the little facts that Sonam is working towards telling everyone. Wearing the selected shade will definitely show that people are at least thinking about the disease. That would be one little goal accomplished for Sonam,” adds the source.
