New Delhi: Almost 20 years after the Ayodhya Ram temple movement, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its affiliates are again planning a mass movement to build momentum before the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
The strategy was finalised at a meeting in Delhi Dharmashala last month. The meeting was attended by BJP top brass, including President Nitin Gadkari and senior members from the RSS and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
BJP leaders from West Bengal and RSS key functionaries operating on the either side of the course of the river were invited for discussion.
It was decided that under an apolitical banner, the Save the Ganga campaign will be launched later this year. According to sources, firebrand leader Uma Bharti has been chosen to start a yatra from Gangasagar to Gangotri.
The dates of the yatra are being finalised.
