India to unveil 5th Generation Fighter Aircraft with stealth features

New Delhi: India is about to unveil the most sophisticated fighter jet in the world. The Fifth Generation fighter Aircraft (FGFA) being built in partnership with Russia is expected to be inducted in the Indian Air Force by 2022. 
The two countries would be signing a joint contract, worth USD 11 billion R&D phase of the project.



The news was confirmed by IAF Chief Air marshal N A K Browne. The prototype of the aircraft is being designed by Sukhoi Design Bureau at Zhukovsky. 



The development work was supervised by the Air chief, when he visited Russia in August last year.

The second prototype is expected to arrive in 2017 and the third in 2019. 



The prototypes would be flight tested; and based on the reult of these tests a final version of the FGFA would be developed for operational use.



India would be buying 214 such jets at an estmiated cost of USD 30 million. The order is scheduled to be complete by 2030.

The FGFA is already in development phase in Russia, with one of its prototype being flight tested. 



The aircraft is expected to have stealth like capabilities and would be smaller in size than Sukhoi aircraft.
