Assam riots: Fresh violence in Chirang district kills 5 people; curfew imposed

Guwahati: Saturday, 9:05 PM - Five persons were killed in fresh ethnic violence in lower Assam's Chirang district on Saturday taking the toll to 85 since the trouble erupted last month.

The five were stabbed to death at around 5:30pm at Chaoudharipara at Bijni in the district, Assam IGP (Law and Order) LR Bishnoi said.

Additional security forces were rushed to the spot and the area sealed, Bishnoi said.

Saturday, 7:50 PM - According to latest reports, at least five people have been killed in fresh violence in the Chirang district of Assam.

Following the fresh violence, an indefinite curfew has been clamped in Assam's Chirang district.

Earlier, in Assam, more than 77 people had lost their lives and several others were injured with nearly 4 lakh rendered homeless in one of the worst-ever communal clashes of the decade.
